We were fortunate enough to catch up with Everett Bred DJ & Producer Fab and Roxbury Bred songwriter, artist & producer Treva Holmes. Besides them briefly speaking about their recent collaboration album "Cold Nights", we were able to learn a little bit more about what crafted their mentality to be the creatives they are today. Boston Culture: Where did you from/ grow up?
Fab: I grew up in Everett up until my high school years where I moved to North Carolina and Maryland . I was bouncing around a bit because of my moms job, but had to get adjusted to situations quickly, but it definitely opened my network to new people, friends, opportunities and more.
Treva Holmes: From Roxbury and grew up there as well for most of my childhood up until college I lived in Roxbury. It was the inner city, a lot of violence, poverty, drugs and you see a lot of things, but also beautiful people, families, churches, and more.
Boston Culture: Talk to us about "Cold Nights" how did you guys get the idea?
Fab & Treva Holmes: We were at first just having fun making music and the songs came out mad dope so we just decided we should put out a collab album for the city. There was a lot going on especially during the pandemic so we took it upon ourselves to create a body of work that embodies the struggles of 2020 and all categories whether that is life, family, relationships and what not.
Boston Culture: What was the best advice you got early in your career?
Fab: Consistency and to keep pushing through because there are a lot of people who will try something, hit a roadblock and find an excuse to stop. Your life can change tomorrow, so why not keep going, eventually something will come out of it for you.
Treva Holmes: A guy who played ball with me had a tryout with the Boston Celtics and told me whenever you get an opportunity to show your gift you have to give all your energy to it and really go crazy. You have to do it for yourself and if people see that you are giving it your all they are going to resonate with that.
Boston Culture: What do you dislike about the art world/music industry?
Fab: I would say only the business side of things where it can get messy if you aren’t educated and do not know what you are doing.
Treva Holmes: Bad business between artist and labels and vice versa. Also people trying to take advantage of other people in this music industry.
Boston Culture: What do you think of the music scene in the State? Are there any other Boston producers or artists you'd potentially like to work with for the next project?
Fab: I think Mass is really blowing up with all the dope creatives in the city really doing their thing. People are networking now more than ever which has led to this state making strides right now. I want to work with everyone including artist such as Cesar, Kae, Punky, Itsbynu, Isaiah Valmont, Tygotem, and more.
Treva Holmes: It is growing rapidly. There are more artists out now more than ever before that are putting in work. Social media has made our scene a lot smaller and bigger at the same time. DJ Fab, Humbeats, International Show, Tygotem. Would like to collab with BIA, Millyz, Cousin Stizz, and more.
Boston Culture: Tell us about your goals for 2021. Any upcoming projects you want to talk about?
Fab: I am looking to continue working on my craft and work with other artists/producers from here as well. I also want to secure a job in Marketing/Artist Relations for a big record label.
Treva Holmes: More albums, videos, music. I want more big records and hopefully my first viral hit this year. I got Trevorzoyd coming soon Prod by Megazoyd and more singles and features. I also have been trying to get more writing placements as well.
